Much of what affects our visual perception of the universe is a product of interaction of light with matter. Inspired by this simple yet astonishing natural phenomenon, we created and designed an interactive light installation. Lux Modulus is an immersive and interactive audio/visual installation where we show our appreciation for the beauty encapsulated in light reflections.

The displayed artwork is an abstract encapsulation of dazzling display of light interaction with compact discs (CDs) emulating a sporadic yet controlled constellation of the light spectrum. The reflection of light from the optical disc uses the very basic principles of refraction and separation of light similar to the scales of a fish or gratings in the butterfly wings stimulating a natural phenomenon in an immersive physical space.

Inside the installation space, visitors can become part of the installation and interact with the light projections and sounds around them with the help of a motion sensor that captures the participant's hand movement leaving behind a trail of lights. The system continuously changes the look and feel of the displayed content based on their movement activities in the space. The same experience is never repeated twice. The installation also incorporates audio-reactive visuals. In addition, visitors are invited to use their mobile phone displays to shine a light on the CD wall to understand the very nature of the light spectrum and its dazzling spectral properties.
